The Community Garden is not just a place to grow plants, it's a place to grow and nurture community.
Located across from the lake, it is in many ways at the heart of MCA.
To plant a garden, is to believe in tomorrow -Audrey Hepburn
The Community Garden was born in April of 2012 under the guidance of Roxanne Bon, a Master Gardener, who taught us the square-foot method. In the summer of 2021, one of our board members, managed a project to bring electricity to the garden which has greatly enhanced our events and given us the ability to hold events after sunset. In the spring of 2022, Matt Ele, Emily Nohr, and Erin Pohl spearheaded a project updating the garden with new boxes based on the "hügelkultur" method. These projects were generously funded by the community and so many wonderful volunteers showed up to provide the manpower.
The MCA hosts many events in the Community Garden: our Summer Faire Series of free concerts, music jams, garden and wildlife talks, pet parades, Halloween parties, mosaic art classes and rummage sales.
2022 marked the 10th Anniversary of the GVL Community Garden.
