Born from the ashes of the iconic Fox Lumber that was lost in 2007 fire, the GVL Community Garden is a beautiful organic garden, meeting place and mosaic gallery. The raised bed boxes are available to GVL residents with the promise that they will be all organic and the rest of the beds and surrounding garden areas are maintained by board members and volunteers. During the spring and summer, there are various talks and workshops related to gardening as well as mosaic classes
Throughout the year the MCA sponsors and facilitates numerous community events in Green Valley Lake to celebrate our amazing little village and to nurture the community connections and spirit that are so much of what we love about this place. Events such as the 4th of July parade, the Summer Faire Concerts, a Halloween party, pot-luck dinners that always include live music, barn dances, and the Holiday Boutique and Christmas party.
Currently the MCA awards two $1000 scholarships to local students. The funds are required to be used for tuition, training costs and required class materials but can be used for trade schools as well as for college. Recipients do not have to be Green Valley Lake residents, they can be from any of our mountain communities.
The MCA also sponsors GVL CERT (Citizen Emergency Response Team) and strives to provide continuing education on disaster preparedness as it's very likely that in the case of a major disaster our community could be cut off for an extended amount of time.
